In the past few years, podcasts have exploded in popularity and prevalence, and for good reason! As multitasking has become a necessity, people want to be entertained and maybe even learn something at the same time while they go about their day.
Why podcasts?
Podcasts are a great way to learn and be entertained, and still be able to focus on other tasks, something that you aren’t able to do with media like books or TV. Podcasts cover every topic imaginable, from true crime and vegan diets to learning new languages and brushing up on your tech skills. Aspiring entrepreneurs and startup leaders have a wealth of podcasts to choose from when they’re looking for topics that are relevant and engaging.
There’s a fairly low barrier to entry into the world of podcasts; you only need to look at the top charts on streaming apps such as Audible, iHeartRadio, Stitcher, Spotify, and Overcast to see how many podcasts there really are out there. There’s a podcast out there for everyone, and it sometimes feels like everyone has his or her own, especially since it has become relatively simple to record and produce your own podcast.
On most streaming apps, podcasts will have a few short sentences that describe their contents, including host and run time. However, none of us want to sift through the hundreds of options available to find the shows that are going to be the most interesting and useful for us.
So here at Purple Yak, we’ve compiled a list of podcasts we listen to and recommend that will help and guide seasoned entrepreneurs and budding startups.

For over a decade John Jantsch has interviewed thought leaders, experts, and authors. You will get authors, experts and thought leaders sharing business marketing tips, tactics and resources as well as great tips and advice from John himself.
It’s extremely popular for a reason; Gary Vaynerchuk has a big personality and the credentials to match. During the show, Vaynerchuk reads and answers viewer submitted questions about social media, marketing, entrepreneurship, and startups. Available in both audio and video, you can watch each recording of #AskGaryVee on YouTube if you want a break from the traditional podcast format.
Smart Passive Income
Generating passive income is a dream for many people. Who wouldn’t want to earn money while they sleep? Pat Flynn became an expert in generating passive income after losing his job during the Great Recession and through this podcast, he teaches others to make their money work for them rather than vice versa. This podcast focuses on implementable strategies that listeners can take and apply for themselves in their own online businesses.
The Pitch
Each episode, John Muccio takes you behind closed doors and puts you at the table of an investor pitch.
