I'm going to reveal a powerful strategy that can make achieving any goal, whether it’s a personal or professional one, much much easier. This one thing has proven incredibly effective for our business, and subsequently our clients that we’ve shared this with on how to smash any goal.
It is worth noting that implementing this strategy may require some time and effort. But trust me, the benefits are far-reaching and can significantly boost your progress be that in business or in your personal life.
There are numerous obstacles that hinder our success, including circumstances, competition, economic factors, and our own personal drive. It’s time to gain a clear advantage and simplify the path to achieving our goals.
As a business who enjoy setting and achieving goals, we understand the challenges of reaching larger objectives. However, the bigger the goal, the more daunting it becomes, and the more difficult it is to accomplish it alone. Sometimes, we all simply get stuck, unsure of what to do or where to go.
That’s why today, I’m excited to share a game-changing hack that can unlock a significant amount of ease in achieving your goals and reaching your aspirations in both your business and personal life. This has helped hundreds of our clients achieve their goals over the past decade.
The powerful strategy is to surround yourself with successful individuals to make achieving your goals easier and faster.
Associating with people who engage in a particular activity makes that activity the standard. If you surround yourself with people who do that activity regularly then you may feel strange for not participating. I have many friends who have taken up cross-fit as a hobby, all of them started at varying times throughout the last 18 months, all showing hesitation and a slight shyness when attending workout sessions. After only 4-6 weeks all of them became absorbed in the cross-fit community, posting on socials about it, the people they’re with and the benefits they were feeling in their lives.
By surrounding themselves with people who were doing the thing they wanted to do, made their goals of getting fitter not only become a reality but they became so absorbed in the activity they enjoyed it so over time it became routine and an essential one that hardly any of them miss a session.
This small insight proved invaluable to them. While it’s a weekly habit, it can be applied to any goal. For instance, if you want to get in shape, consider making friends who consistently exercise. Even if you don’t exercise together, spending time with someone who has been running every morning for the past five years can influence your habits and discipline.
When your social circle consists of individuals who engage in a particular activity, this newfound routine becomes the norm. Even if it means making new friends and dedicating a significant portion of your time to them, even for a few months, this approach can significantly impact your ability to achieve your goal.
If you want to hit your goals faster, I can’t emphasise the importance of associating with the right people who align with your goals and aspirations. These individuals, even if they’re not famous or Instagram-famous, can have a significant impact on you without you even realising it.
Let’s apply this concept to business. Imagine you want to establish a successful coaching business that generates seven or eight figures in revenue. It’s perfectly acceptable if you’re just starting out to surround yourself with individuals who have already achieved your desired outcome. Their success doesn’t necessarily require fame or social media recognition.
What matters is that they’ve demonstrated the skills and strategies that led to their success.
Spending time with these people normalises the path to success. Even if you only have one or two mentors, you can still learn from them through YouTube videos, autobiographies, or founder stories on podcasts.
By immersing yourself in these stories and the experiences of successful individuals, your mindset begins to comprehend that these strategies are not uncommon or extraordinary. They become a part of your routine, and you start to believe that you can achieve the same level of success.
I personally applied this principle when I founded my coaching business, Purple Yak. I actively sought out and befriended many successful coaching founders. I made a conscious effort to connect with people who had achieved the kind of success I aspired to, knowing that their insights and experiences would be invaluable to my journey.
You’ll gain valuable insights by simply being around people who have achieved what you aspire to. You’ll develop new habits and start implementing different strategies.
You’ll broaden your horizons on what’s possible because you didn’t know what was possible before meeting these individuals. You didn’t know them.
This is what I’ve learned from spending time with successful people who have done what I wanted to do.
Now, I’d like to provide you with a simple exercise for you to begin practicing this. You can either jump in and try this with a specific goal you want to achieve, or you can even start with a smaller, manageable goal.
For instance, when I was in my late teens, I wanted to learn how to snowboard. I completely immersed myself in getting to know other snowboarders. I made friends who snowboarded and immersed myself in the snowboarding culture.
I watched YouTube channels dedicated to snowboarding, took lessons locally on a dry slope, and even went on 2 snowboarding trips in my first year. The intention was to meet a group of snowboarders, even though I wasn’t as skilled as them, but I wanted to immerse myself with people who were at a level I aspired to be in snowboarding.
And because of that, I was able to learn and pick up snowboarding much faster. After the first trip I was on black runs and after the second, I had no fear and only fell once due to over confidence and trying a jump.
The people I met shared some fantastic insights and tips that unlocked a whole lot for me. I also got to meet some really amazing and cool people who shared similar interests, one of which was snowboarding.
So, you can apply this even to personal interests, hobbies, or significant life goals. Observe its effectiveness and use it for other important objectives.
I strongly recommend making an effort to connect and surround yourself with people who align with your desired outcomes in any goal you set. This involves participating in meet-ups, webinars, or virtual events online. It does require effort but it will pay off in the speed you see yours goals being achieved.
It means putting yourself out there, adopting a beginner’s mindset, and being vulnerable. This might involve seeking introductions from friends of friends or doing things completely out of your comfort zone, like when I jumped on a tour bus with a group of strangers. However, those strangers became my friends and significantly accelerated my progress in snowboarding.
We’ve all heard Jim Rohn’s quote, which states, “We are the average of the five people we spend the most time with.” You can view this as a mere observation or take action upon it.
Make an effort to spend as much time as possible with the individuals who embody the qualities you aspire to have.
This includes books, videos, courses, and webinars. Ensure that each of these resources is included in your list of five most influential people.
Thank you so much for reading.
Take care.
